A very good afternoon to our honorable adjudicators, ladies and gentleman, members of the house. My name is Alan and I will now highlight the disadvantages of the youth’s publishing of online blogs. At the end of my speech, I will be able to convince you that youth blogging has a major negative impact on society, which greatly outweighs the advantages.
But before I start my case proper, I would like to point out a number of crucial flaws in the opposition's speech. ...
Now, let me start my case proper.
Today’s youths being born into the digital revolution rather than being introduced to it; they are the ultimate tech-savvy generation. With the growing number of youths publishing blogs, it is evident that blogs do have a huge impact on the society. Both positive and negative. However, there are much more negative impacts brought up by blogs themselves.
Blogging has defeated its purpose as a web dairy as it encourages coarse languages and vulgarities. Many bloggers have introduced offensive languages in their blogs to express the degree of discontentment in various areas. These words are not just rough, but create an adverse effect on moral deterioration. A majority number of youths being at the age between 12 to 18, are not mature enough to handle such languages but the other way round, get addicted into it. Youths are not fully aware of its meaning and their offensiveness. Thus, they are unable to interpret the possible effects to public viewers.

Second of all, Pornography. Many youths are influenced by the sexual content both seen in the cinema, as well as on the Internet. For that, many youths have since then been indulged and addicted to such undesirable materials. According to the law in Singapore, any form of contact with pornographic materials under the age of 21 will be fined or would have to serve a jail term. However, many youths choose to violate the law and continue to post nude pictures or sex scenes found on the Internet, or even link web addresses of porn websites to their own blogs. In such a case, public viewers are not just risked being exposed to the ordinary sexual content, but risked of being concentrated into gross and explicit activities and homosexuality. Such in despicable and low down materials not just corrupt the innocent minds of the others, but also mainly deepen his addiction and makes these youths crave for more! To a small extent, it might also change the mindset of youths towards their love life, promoting gay-ism even! In the current situation, where is the dividing line to differentiate blogs from porn websites? Obviously blogs have lost its identity as a dairy or journal and now seen as an alternative to pornography.

Are we in any position to let such an act continue? Are these youths willing to take up the responsibility for corrupting the minds of the public, and most importantly bare their own mistakes when legal actions are implemented?

Very likely, they are unprepared to do so. Youth bloggers, being in the state of immaturity, would not be able to understand the consequences for breeching the law, furthermore understand the negative and influential impact introduced to the public. Youth bloggers must be responsible in their own actions and be clearly aware that any materials posted would be viewed by people of different ages all over the world. And that I stress, includes other youths or even children. They must have the welfare of the young at heart, considering their age and immaturity. Moreover, according to the rules and regulations stated on www.blogger.com, the largest founder of blogging, there should not be any forms of nudity or sexual references within their content, and that no vulgarities are allowed. If these youths are unable to meet the rules and regulations of blogging, then there shouldn't be a reason for youths to blog.

By engaging in such acts, blogging lowers the morale and well being of the public. Such acts would only portray a picture of youths as indecent and desperate people. For many, living with these indecent corrupted minds in the same planet makes themselves no difference. With an increment number of youths abusing and violating blogs, it is inevitable and essential for us to regulate strictly on these youths, to prevent or at best reduce the number of cases reported. If no regulation is carried out, then it would only be a hypocritical website that aims at moral insults, rather than its original idea as a web journal.

For that, we stand firmly on our grounds and persistently believe that blogging by youths should be strictly regulated.
